Japan agrees to support food security in Mauritania

Nouakchott (IINA) – Japan agreed to provide grant to achieve food security in Mauritania. Mauritanian Minister of Economic Affairs and Development Sid'Ahmed Ould Rais and Japanese Ambassador in Nouakchott John Yoshida signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard.
Under the agreement, Japan will grant Mauritania 460 million Japanese yen to contribute to the supply of basic foodstuffs, achieve maintaining price stability and protect the purchasing power of the poor.
The minister underlined that this grant will contribute to supporting the free distribution operations for the benefit of low-income earners and financing some income-generating projects as well as the regular supply of the national market with the basic rice commodity and protecting the purchasing power of the Mauritanians.
It is noteworthy that Japan provided a total amount of $100 million to fund projects in Mauritania over the past 30 years.
