Cairo, (IINA) - Four Egyptian policemen were killed and another eight were injured in two separate attacks in northern Egypt and the restive Sinai Peninsula on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported citing Egypt's Interior Ministry.
Egyptian Ministry of Interior Affairs stated that three policemen were killed and eight others were injured when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the city of Arish, North of Sinai. Welayet Sinai (“Province of Sinai”), the most active Sinai-based militant group, which is said to have links to the extremist ISIS organization, later claimed the attack.
In a separate attack, a policeman was killed in a drive-by shooting in Egypt’s northern Beni Sueif province, there has been no claim of responsibility as yet for this attack.
Official estimates say that more than 350 army and police personnel were killed in militant attacks since July 2013 and until July of this year. No estimates, however, are available as to how many security personnel were killed since July.
