Mina (IINA) - Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier, minister of interior and chairman of the Supreme Haj Committee, has ordered on Thursday to constitute a high level committee to probe into the Mina stampede and the causes for it, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The crown prince issued the directive while presiding over an emergency meeting of the commanders of the security forces taking part in Haj operation at the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior in Mina. The report will be presented to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman. The crown prince prayed for the forgiveness of the dead pilgrims as well as for the speedy recovery of the injured. In a related development, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, governor of Makkah, advisor of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and chairman of the Central Haj Committee, visited the scene of stampede in Mina.
Meanwhile, the ministry of health has readied its staff at the holy sites to handle cases of those injured in the stampede. All the hospitals in Makkah were put on red alert since the moment of stampede at 9 a.m. “We have mobilized all the medical cadets on emergency basis and some of the injured have already been transferred to hospitals in Makkah from Mina hospitals. If it is necessary, we will transport some of them to hospitals in Jeddah and Taif,” Minister of Health Khaled Al-Falih said.
