Washington, (IINA) - U.S. Republican Presidential hopeful Ben Carson said on Sunday that no Muslim should be president of the United States, NBC reported.
During an NBC interview, Carson was asked whether a president’s religion should matter in the U.S. Presidential race, he answered: “I guess it depends on what that faith is. If it is inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter”.
When asked whether he thinks Islam is consistent with the constitution, he responded with: “No, I don't. I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that”.
Carson's campaign faced outrage over these comments regarding Islam, the National Muslim Civil Liberties Group and the Council of American-Islamic Relations have called for Carson to withdraw from the race after the controversial statement.
