Auckland, New Zealand (IINA) - The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand organized Islam Open Day at Aotea Square in central Auckland on Sunday, marking the end of Islam Awareness Week.
The event was aimed to allow people to discover the world of Islam from different perspectives and featured exhibitions on art, religion, science, history, society and culture as well as food and clothing stalls, New Zealand Herald reported. The internationally recognized event celebrates the positive relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims.
During the last week, events were held across New Zealand in mosques, Islamic centres, universities and community spaces aiming to give insight into Islam and the Muslim community.
The events were a platform for Muslims to dispel common misconceptions in society as well as a way to celebrate their own uniqueness and contributions to the wider community. About 45,000 Muslims live in New Zealand. Many of them are New Zealanders by birth.
