Amman, (IINA) – Jordanian government on Sunday condemned the Israeli raid on Al Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem by a special force, and voiced its rejection of such acts, Petra reported.
State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani warned of the continuous Israeli attempts to change reality in the holy shrine in violation of international laws.
Momani, who is also the government's spokesperson, called on the Israeli government to end its provocative acts as well as violations against holy sites in the occupied city.
He noted that Jordan will continue to confront all Israeli measures against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and exert all in its power to maintain Islamic shrines, referring to King Abdullah's custodianship of the Jerusalem holy places.
The minister demanded commitment to the outcome of the November 2014 meeting between King Abdullah, US Secretary John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, when it was agreed to keep the situation without change in East Jerusalem’s sacred places.
"The continuation of the Israeli violations against Al Aqsa Mosque by Israeli forces and extremists would inflame conflict and extremism and close the door for possible political settlement," the minister added.
Earlier today, clashes erupted after a number of Israeli soldiers entered Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem. The Israeli forces closed the mosque's compound to worshipers following the clashes that coincided with the start of the Jewish New Year.
