San Diego, (IINA) - Three billboards as part of a campaign to correct misunderstanding about American Muslims were recently placed in San Diego. The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is funding the campaign, Fox news 5 reported.
ICNA Vice President Khalid Griggs stated that the city is an important part of the campaign that invites people to explore the Muslim faith.
“Mohammad believed in: peace, social justice, and women’s rights” and “Mohammad always taught love, not hate; peace, not violence”, these phrases are on two of the signs, the third board says: “God does not judge by your face and wealth”.
The campaign will have around 100 billboards placed in the United States. Creators of the message said it could spark backlash amid a spike in anti-Islamic sentiment.
Griggs said this initiative is to correct the growing misinformation about Islam and its Prophet (peace be upon him). Billboards invite passers-by to ask questions regarding Islam through calling the toll-free number or submitting their questions in the campaigns online website.
“People are curious to know about the Prophet Mohammad”, said Naeem Baig, the President of ICNA. “They have many questions, and we are experiencing a surge in calls to our hotline and website visits since the billboards went up”.
