Bethlehem, (IINA) - Israeli Jewish settlers on Saturday buried a water well belong to a Palestinian farmer in Al-Khader town, south of Bethlehem, which ultimately deprived the owner of the well from irrigating his corps due to the dirt and rocks thrown into the well.
According to WAFA, Coordinator of the anti-wall and settlement committee Ahmad Salah, the water well is a private property of Mohammad Al-Baik and it is located in an agricultural land adjacent to the Israeli settlement of Eliezer, noting that the well was built almost 60 years ago and is used for irrigation purposes only.
The UN office for Coordination of Humanitarian (OCHA) stated that the Israeli authorities have repeatedly failed to enforce their law on Israeli settlers, which is leading to acts of violence against Palestinians. Israeli forces often fail to stop Israeli settlers’ attacks on Palestinians, and their follow-up afterwards is either inadequate or poorly conducted. Measures of the current system, including requiring Palestinians to file complaints at police stations located inside Israeli settlements, discourage Palestinians from filing complaints against the settlers”.
Al-Haq human rights organization stated that: “The illegal Israeli settlement policy of transferring Israeli civilians into occupied territory is directly responsible for creating a hostile environment that puts civilians, both Israeli and Palestinian, in harm's way”.
It is noteworthy that Settlements are illegal under the international law, as they violate Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which bans transferring the occupying power’s civilian population into occupied territory.
