Makkah, (IINA) - The Saudi Civil Defence General Directorate announced that 204 pilgrims fainted in Mina as a result of overcrowding at Mashair Train Station No.3.
According to SPA, the Media Spokesman of the Directorate Col. Abdullah Alharthi said that the automated doors of train No.16 No.1 malfunctioned at Mina Train Station at 7:05 before the pilgrims trip to Arafa, which resulted in an overcrowding at the station.
The Spokesman stated that 204 pilgrims, mainly elderly and the sick, fainted or suffered from fatigue and exhautionas an outcome of the stress and duration of long waiting.
He said that the situation was handled as swiftly as possible, noting that the Saudi Red Crescent immediately directed its units and provided emergency aid to more than 204 pilgrims. He pointed out that 199 of the pilgrims were treated and transferred to Arafa safely, but five others has been taken to nearby hospitals.
Al-Harthi added that directorate forces who were in the location cooperated with the trains’ operating company to increase the number of trains from 4 to 7 in order to reduce the waiting time and to accommodate the number of pilgrims that came from station No.1.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA), through its ground and air teams, on Tuesday handled 1,349 cases in the holy sites, SRCA solved 521 cases instantly, while it could not take up 280 cases for various reasons.
According to SRCA, Mina topped the number of received reports with 531 cases, 361 reports came in from Makkah, 34 from Arafah, 6 from Muzdalifah, 132 cases from the Grand Mosque and 51 from the Jamarat. SRCA noted that air ambulance handled 28 cases.
