Addis Ababa (IINA) – Uganda and Ethiopia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen defense ties, according to Uganda's New Vision.
The MoU was signed by Uganda's Defense Minister Crispus Kiyonga, and his Ethiopian counterpart Siraj Fegessa in the Ugandan capital Kampala on Tuesday.
During the signing ceremony, Kiyonga said the MoU was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in defense matters and to enforce peace and stability in the region.
Among the key areas reviewed was the situation in South Sudan and Somalia, in addition to terrorism in the region.
The two countries agreed to safeguard peace and security, promote common values and other fundamental regional and African interests.
On his part, the Ethiopian minister of defense commended Uganda's efforts to promote peace in the region and in Africa at large.
It is worth mentioning that the two countries also signed last year several MoUs on energy, health and transport, as well as on establishment of cooperation between their capital cities of Kampala and Addis Ababa.
