Ankara (IINA) – Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Wednesday pledged support for refugees, Anadolu Agency reported.
Speaking at a Ramadan iftar dinner at the Justice and Development (AK) Party headquarters in Ankara, Davutoglu said: "We will never close the doors to the oppressed who come to us despite all propaganda."
“There are 1.7 million refugees in Turkey now but I want to give a striking figure that more than 200,000 refugee babies were born in Turkey. They were born in a free country in peace," he said, addressing ambassadors to Turkey.
He said responsibility for these infants lay not just with Turkey but with the world.
"I am honored to be the prime minister of a country hosting the highest number of refugees," he added, asking the envoys to pass this on to their own countries.
Davutoglu accused the international media of ignoring Turkey's humanitarian policy and called for the United Nations to take “concrete steps against cruelties”.
