Tunis (IINA) – President of Higher Islamic Council (HIC) Abdallah Loussaief was dismissed on Saturday, for "administrative overruns," the Tunisian Prime Ministry said in a statement.
Tunisia Press Agency (TAP) reported that "the HIC informed the premiership a week later about the content of a message sent to the Tunisian Radio management on June 26, containing serious accusations that could have an adverse impact," according to the statement released by Adviser to the premiership in charge of Information and Communication Dhafer Neji.
Loussaief asked, in the message, the National Radio Management to suspend broadcasting a radio program, and accused thinker Youssef Seddik, presenter of the program, of heresy and comparing him with Salman Rushdie, the author of "Satanic Verses."
"The president of the council decided unilaterally and without referring to the other members of the authority to send a letter to the Tunisian Radio Management," the statement said.
The prime ministry considered "the message as a personal initiative and an individual reaction”, describing its content as "extremely important and sensitive."
