Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz
Malabo (IINA) – Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz said that the rapid spread of Ebola disease showed the absence of strong health system in Africa, adding that the world was not prepared enough to responding effectively to the disease outbreak, with its severity exceeded all expectations.
In his address on Wednesday to the participants in the International Conference on Africa's Fight Against Ebola in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, President Abdel Aziz called for the establishment of a health system capable of integrating the functions of monitoring, detection, sensitization and treatment. He pointed out that the ‘African Solidarity Initiative’ is a "pioneering idea because it is designed to enable the continent to combat epidemics using its own means".
He added that the challenge facing the African continent today is to ensure continuity of mobilizing efforts on Ebola prevention, and most importantly is to draw lessons from this acute health crisis and to shoulder responsibility for the large economic and social repercussions
