OIC chief Iyad Madani
Jeddah (IINA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani on Saturday welcomed the signing of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Bamako by the Coordination Movements of Azawad, which had already been signed by the Platform Coalition and the government of Mali on May 15.
The secretary general commended the Algerian-led international mediation for the successful endeavors to bring on board the Coordination Movements of Azawad as an important party in the Algiers peace process.
Madani noted with satisfaction that with the signature by the Azawad, which completed the signing process of the Algiers peace accord, Mali is firmly on the way to durable peace, stability and sustainable development. He urged the parties to fully implement the agreement including the respect for ceasefire.
The secretary general also reiterated the determination of the OIC as a member of the international mediation team to support the Malian parties in the critical phase of the implementation of the peace agreement.
Djibril Bassole, the Special Envoy of the OIC Secretary General for Mali and the Sahel, represented the Organization at the signing ceremony which was attended by other members of the mediation team.
