Riyadh (IINA) – Monday, May 25 marks the 34th anniversary of the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which was kicked off on 25 May 1981 in Abu Dhabi, the spring of a dawn of a new region and its people called the Arab Gulf, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
On that day, the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman translated the dream into reality through the issuance of the historic decision to announce the establishment of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States, based on the common historical, social, cultural and economic ties binding them, as well as the customs and traditions associating them with a shared destiny.
The Council has made significant progress towards the objectives stated in its statute in all areas, starting with orchestrating the six-nation political positions in international forums, and followed by the establishment of the GCC common market, the equal treatment and enjoyment of the legal and natural privileges in any member state for other GCC nationals, the free movement and residence of the member countries nationals among the GCC region, working in government and private sectors, enjoying other countries' social insurance and retirement systems, the practice of professions and trades, the practice of all economic, investment activities and services, real estate ownership, the transfer and receive of capital, tax treatment, the establishment of stock trading companies, as well as taking advantage of the educational, health and social services ensured for other country's citizens.
The GCC countries have over the past 34 years conquered all hostile attempts to undermine all or some of its sister country. They also stood fast against political plots and terrorist acts. The GCC states has survived and is progressing to the prescribed goals. They preserved a high-level regional social and economic welfare of their citizens despite tough times seen by the states.
