Amman (IINA) – The Malaysian embassy in Amman has taken a proactive approach to prevent the Islamic State (IS) militant group from influencing Malaysians, especially students pursuing their studies in Jordan, BERNAMA reported.
Zakri Jaafar, the Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan, said the embassy would from time to time engage with the students and warn them against the dangers of the IS extremist ideology as well as exhorting them not to be involved with the group.
"We have officers from the Prime Minister's Department, the Education Ministry and the Ministry of Defense to monitor their activities,” Zakri said.
"We also disseminate information and messages to them through the social media so that they can keep abreast with current events," he told the Malaysian media here on Thursday.
The Ambassador said there are about 3,200 Malaysian students in Jordan who are studying in various fields, including medicine, dentistry, Islamic studies and Islamic banking.
