Jakarta (IINA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the Asian-African Conference Commemoration is the best moment to end the Zionist occupation of Palestine, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) reported.
“Palestine is the only country in Asia-Africa who are still under the occupation. Therefore, the event is the best time for us to immediately realizing Palestine independent, “said President Jokowi in his meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and Foreign Minister Riad al-Maliki on the sidelines of the opening Asian African Business Forum (AABS) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Jokowi stated that Indonesia is also requesting approval for the opening of the honorary consulate of Indonesia in Ramallah as a real form of Indonesian diplomatic recognition of Palestine.
Indonesia was the third country to recognize the independence of Palestine, a few moments after Yasser Arafat declared Palestinian independence in the Algerian capital of Algiers on 15 November 1988.
Jokowi said the opening of honorary consulate got the full support from the Prime Minister of Palestine. Even the opening of the consulate’s efforts will be aided fully by the Palestinian Authority.
Jokowi and Hamdallah also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the economic field. Reinforcement can be realized by increasing the value of the trade as well as tax exemption on Palestinian products which will enter Indonesia.
