UAE recalls ambassador to Sweden over criticism of Saudi Arabia

Thursday 19 Mar 2015 - 09:43 Makkah mean time-28-5-1436 UAE recalls ambassador to Sweden over criticism of Saudi Arabia (Google image) Dubai, (IINA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has summoned the Ambassador of Sweden to the UAE, Jan Thesleff, to deliver a formal memorandum of protest, following the abusive remarks by the Foreign Minister of Sweden Margot Wallstrom, against neighboring Saudi Arabia, WAM reported. Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, minister of state for foreign affairs, referred in a statement to the "condemnation by the UAE of strong statements made by Wallstrom to the Swedish Parliament against the Kingdom of Saudi and its judicial system." The Minister stressed that "these statements violate the principle of sovereignty upon which the normal relations between countries are based", adding that such remarks are deemed interference in internal affairs, as they do not respect the religious and cultural particularities of states and communities. The MoFA also recalled Sultan Rashid Al Kaitoob, UAE Ambassador to Sweden, in the wake of the offending remarks by Wallstrom. SM/IINA
