UN Chief urges Yemeni parties to return to dialogue

Riyadh, (IINA) - U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged on Sunday the political parties in Yemen to return to dialogue under the auspices of UN envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar, SABA news agency reported.

Benomar has been "working very hard in Yemen, facilitating a way out of the current political crisis and a return to the path of the peaceful political transition," Ban Ki-moon told reporters after talks with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman in Riyadh.

"This situation in Yemen has been the major topic which we addressed," said Ban, who arrived in the Kingdom to pay his respects after the death of King Abdullah.

The UN chief said that he briefed King Salman on the efforts of Benomar, noting that the talks dealt with the latest developments in Yemen that led to a power vacuum and possible ways to avoid any obstacles may hinder the transitional phase.

Ban expressed his appreciation of the effective participation of Saudi Arabia as a member of the Friends of Yemen Group.
