The El Pais reported that most of these fighters, who have gained experience in dealing with weapons and explosives," hide under the guise of refugees fleeing the civil war and use false travel documents. The newspaper pointed out that European fighters return to their home countries mostly through Spain, sometimes taking advantage of the services provided by the Red Cross to refugees to gain access to other European countries by buses or trains.
