"As far as S-300 is concerned, it is likely that our Russian friends will supply this defensive system to Iran this year,” Sanai said in a statement carried by Iran’s Fars News Agency on Wednesday. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif earlier said he hopes that a decision on supplies of Russia's S-300 will be made as soon as possible. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in late January also commented on possible S-300 supplies to Iran, saying the topic is in the focus of attention in the bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. According to the deal signed in 2005, Russia should supply Iran with S-300 air defense systems, but its implementation has been delayed, according to analysts, for pressures exercised by Westerners, particularly the United States.
