N'djamena (IINA) – Chadian aircraft hit on Sunday Boko Haram positions in the Nigerian border town of Gamboru for a second straight day.

Two military helicopters pounded targets in Gamboru, about 500 m away from the town of Fotokol, where Chadian and Cameroonian troops are stationed.

An officer in the Chadian army told AFP that the airstrikes sought to paralyze Boko Haram fighters’ movements and pave the way for ground offensive to liberate Gamboru.

"We are determined to fight the enemy," Chadian Commander General Ahmat Darry Bazine said after the shelling, stressing that the morale of the troops is very high.

On Sunday, the Nigerian army announced it had repelled a Boko Haram assault on Maiduguri, the restive capital of Borno State. The attack came a day after Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan visited the city as part of his campaign for re-election this month, and again vowed to end Boko Haram insurgency.
