Wednesday 11 Feb 2015 - 11:23 Makkah mean time-22-4-1436 Image from Thaer Ghanaim/Palestinian Presidency Stockholm (IINA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories and the policies of hegemony by force of arms and the collective punishment imposed against the Palestinian people will never create peace and security for Israel.
Abbas said, on Tuesday during a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Stephen Leuven in Stockholm, that Israel continues its policy of race discrimination, holding thousands of prisoners in its jails, blocking the Palestinians to exploit their resources, besides strangling the Palestinian economy through several procedures that hinder its development and growth.
"The latest measure within the scope of these collective punishments is the freezing of tax revenues, collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinian Authority," Abbas said, considering this measure a violation of the international law and human rights, as well as the agreements previously signed with Israel, and that it would certainly affect the sustainability of the government’s civil and security system.
He pointed to Israel's continuous attempts to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank, and depriving its citizens of their right to safe and decent life.
Abbas stressed that the Palestinian government is determined to rebuild Gaza, and it is working with all local and international parties towards realizing this goal despite the challenges.
"We are working in compliance with principles and laws designed to build a modern Palestinian State, where the rule of law prevails, and the institutions work according to the criteria of transparency, accountability, separation of powers and maintaining security for all, including labor unions and civil society institutions."
